New Running and Walking Club Hits Streets of Ventura
“RunVentura” to meet at Inside Track store downtown
Walkers and runners in Ventura County looking for training, fun and camaraderie now have reason to celebrate! RunVentura, a new walking and running club will make its debut on Saturday, August 23rd at the Inside Track running store in downtown Ventura.
The club will focus on all distances, from a couple of miles to marathons. RunVentura will meet year-round at 7:30am every Saturday at Inside Track, as well as during the week for track and hill workouts and on Sundays for trail runs.
“I am really excited about the new club, especially the inclusion of both walkers and runners, from novices to marathoners and beyond”, said Josh Spiker, owner of Inside Track. “Usually clubs include only really serious runners. We are happy to have runners and walkers of all levels”, said Spiker, who is currently the coach of Inside Track Running Club and a private coach as well.
Spiker was a state champion in the 3200 meters while at Ventura High School, a seventime All-American while at the University of Wisconsin. He qualified for the 2004 Olympic Trials in Track and Field, but was unable to compete because of health reasons.
In addition to Spiker’s coaching experience, the club’s leadership has some really experienced runners and walkers of all abilities and levels. George Arita, the club’s first director said, “While some serious runners want to be challenged and train for races, others just want to focus on health and fitness or to meet others and socialize. We welcome everyone and hope they will make their Saturday morning plans with us!”
Come see what it’s all about on Saturday, August 23rd. Registration will begin promptly at 9 am until 12 noon. Inside Track running store is located in downtown Ventura at 38 W Main St., across from the Vons shopping center.
